Celebration Program
Dear friend,
The year 2001 is the 100th anniversary of the settlement of Ukrainians
in Rochester. It is a time to remember our first Ukrainian settlers, to
rejoice
in their accomplishments and to celebrate continued presence and growth
of the Ukrainian American Community.
Our volunteer Committee appointed by a joint meeting of all the Rochester-based
Ukrainian organizations has been formed to organize, plan and implement
appropriate festivities celebrating this centennial year of our community.
Today, the
Ukrainian community is an integral part of Rochester's rich ethnic diversity
that defines its vitality and contributes strength, so essential, to American
society. Through our many cultural programs Ukrainian-Americans preserved
their unique spiritual, professional, commercial, artistic and humanitarian
heritage of their forbearers while, at the same time, supported the ideals
of freedom and justice upon which this nation
was founded.
Our goals
are quite simple:

To
pay homage to our forefathers and brethren, who have given so much to
make the path easier for all of us, who have adopted America as our new
homeland.
•
To
unify our entire Ukrainian-American community during the year of celebration.
•
To
share the rich traditions of our heritage with the Greater Rochester community.
•
To
preserve our unique cultural and historical legacy for generations to
come.
Please take a minute to review a list of some activities that may provide
you with more insight on our proposed program.
In
order to accomplish our objectives, we are calling upon your support and
participation. We invite you because we truly believe that your hard work
and perseverance serves as a great example for Rochester's business and
community. Your support will help the Ukrainian Community in celebrating
your achievements.
We are seeking
a contribution of twenty thousand dollars. The Rochester Ukrainian Federal
Credit Union already became a major sponsor of this project by offering
ten thousand Dollars as a matching fund. You can also become an underwriter
of a particular event or group of events. Your generosity will make this
project a success and sponsorship will be recognized in our publications
including Rochester Ukrainian Group web site.
This year we will nominate and select one hundred outstanding contributors
to the Rochester Ukrainian Community for the past one hundred years. Please
contact one of the committee officers to nominate someone.
